THE APOLLO PROJECT

FCUBSNAAI donated P6.5M human simulator to Filamer

A Php 6.5 million prehospital patient simulator named “Apollo” was donated by the FCU-Bachelor of Science in Nursing Alumni Association-International (FCUBSNAAI) to the College of Nursing as their grand project.

Apollo, the first of its kind in the province of Capiz, is a high density prehospital simulator developed by CAE healthcare with Aspen company. The simulator can be used for a comprehensive head to toe assessment including the heart and lung sounds, and can be manipulated in an operating room set-up. Apollo’s physiologic engine offers an automatic scenario progression based on learner’s actions, allowing objective assessment of clinical competencies. It also ensures clinical accuracy and educational relevance as some of its features allow performance of nursing procedures of which the Nursing students can do to their actual patients.

With the limitation of hospital exposure of FCU Nursing students during pandemic, Apollo is the best answer to their clinical needs. All students from Level 1 to Level 4 and the faculty of the College of Nursing can use it.

It can be recalled that Apollo was a grand project of the FCUBSNAAI for their supposed January 2022 global reunion in Roxas City but was postponed due to pandemic. The realization of the project was spearheaded by BSN Class 1977 with the cooperation of other FCU Nursing alumni and friends.

FCU Board of Trustees led by the Chairman, Atty. Zacarias D. Bedona, and the FCU administration headed by the University President, Dr. George O. Cortel, expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the FCUBSNAAI for the project which is very helpful to the University as it continues to provide quality Nursing education.

Dr. Nelly M. Guillen, Dean of the College of Nursing, said, “In behalf of the College of Nursing, we relay our deepest thanks to one and all for the realization of this dream – to have a high fed simulator who can answer the dire need of the College during these times of pandemic, and also to respond to the call of the Association of Deans of the Philippine Colleges of Nursing, and to meet CHED Memorandum Orders highly encouraging the schools of nursing to have a simulator mannequin to answer the needs of students at these challenging times. This is our memorable day ever and the best valentine gift we ever received this February 14.”
